It’s natural for patients considering cosmetic surgery to ask questions about procedures, recovery time and how long their results will last. One question I get asked quite frequently related to facelifts is how long the results of a typical facelift will last.
This is a great question, but there are two different answers I give depending the patient’s mindset. My first answer is that I believe the benefits of face lifting last for many, many years, perhaps even a lifetime. Most patients who have undergone surgical procedures to rejuvenate their faces end up looking younger than they would have if they had never had a facelift for quite some time. For these women, a single facelift effectively turns back the clock so they always look a few years younger than their actual ages.
Another way that I answer this question is to talk about how long it might be until patients would typically want another facelift. In my experience, this tends to be about 10 to 12 years after the first facelift. This seems to be about how long it takes until a patient feels they would like it performed a second time. Of course a lot of individual factors come into play including how healthy your skin is, whether or not you smoke, and how much sun exposure you've had (and will continue to have).
